Responding to a Board Complaint Letter
When a complaint is filed with the Board of Nursing, a nurse will receive a letter from the investigator handling the complaint. The letter will contain a brief description of the complaint, and asks the nurse to submit a written response. The letter also asks the nurse to contact the investigator to arrange for an interview.
Many nurses make critical errors at this stage of their case because they do not understand the implications. The Board's investigation process is a legal process. Both the written response and the interview with the investigator are used to collect evidence that can, and will, be used against the nurse by a prosecutor at the Office of the Attorney General. Yes, a prosecutor!
A nurse license lawyer can help you understand the board process and its implications, draft an appropriate written response to a Board complaint letter, and prepare you for your interview with the investigator.
